Y&T in the Monsters of Rock Cruise

Y&T was the band in charge of closing the Monsters of Rock Cruise‘s first night, in substitution of Lynch Mob, that had to be postponed to the last day due to technical issues.

And Meniketti’s band did not disappoint, playing big hits from all the band’s career and that’s fair enough to start with “Open Fire“.

In spite of Meniketti being the only original band founder, all group looked like a big family and all of them were on fire on the stage, Brad Lang in the bass, John Nymann in the guitar and Mike Vanderhule on the drums.

When Dave Meniketti started the beautiful instrumental “I’ll Cry For You” was really exciting. He looked like talking with the guitar, intoning each chord silently with his mouth, just like he was singing his own solo. I can assure you  he is one of the guys that I saw playing guitar with the most feeling.

Almost in the end of the show, the production advised Dave about the need to end up the concert, what caused Y&T to cut from the setlist the beautiful “Forever“, however Meniketti announced a very different set-list to the second show, to occur in the pool’s stage in the following day.

After a bright sunny day, the evening was a bit turbulent with wind gusts and rain shower, but nothing that could ruin the second show in the pool’s stage. With some different songs in the set list, but with the same electrifying pace the band started with “Black Tiger” followed by “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” from Ten’s album.

Meniketti was telling jokes about the rain, saying that it would be the first time they were going to play under the rain but that was OK, because it would be the first time they’d  play in high seas too. He also made the crowd remember the sunny morning of the day while he started “Summertime Girls“.

This time the beautiful “Forever” was included in the setlist to end this show wonderfully and letting everyone with the craving for more in the next Monsters of Rock Cruise in 2013.
